Faktion formed in 2002 as a four- piece group after the band members met at the University of North Texas. Originally, guitarist Marshal Dutton was the band' s vocalist, but frontman Ryan Gibbs was recruited and the band became a five- piece group. In 2004, the band independently recorded and released an EP titled Make a Dent. In October of 2004, the band signed a record deal with Roadrunner Records. [ 1] Their self titled debut album Faktion was produced by Brett Hestla ( Dark New Day) & amp; Justin Thomas, and was recorded at Gridlock Studios in Orlando, Florida.

The album was released on March 21, 2006. Just eight months after their album was released, the band announced they had parted ways with Roadrunner. [ 2] They are said to be working on new material with the anticipation of releasing a new album in 2008. The band independently released a five track b- side disc on March 20, 2007. On May 3, 2007, the band announced Gibbs' departure to pursue other opportunities.

The band announced Aaron Pose as their new lead singer on August 16th, 2007. User- contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By- SA License and may also be available under the GNU FDL.

( ) - - The summer holidays are here, a fact that fills parents with both excitement and a certain amount of dread. Many children will be heading off to destinations near and far with their mums and dads who, if they did not take their children on holiday, would probably not know what else to do with them. Traveling with children, especially young ones, is no mean feat. How do you explain to a little one who is going stir crazy on a long flight that, no, the windows cannot open; throwing a tantrum will not make us get there any quicker; that, yes, you need to be quiet because lots of other people on the flight are asleep; and that, no, we can' t call grandma?

It does get easier from about the age of six, when the little ones are more able to go to the loo on their own, eat at restaurants, sit ( relatively) still on a flight if plied with enough computer games and movies, and generally start to have a little bit of common sense; or enough that you don' t feel like smacking them. Here are some hard truths about traveling with your squirmy tykes. The younger the child, the bigger the suitcase While older children can be expected to adapt to the journey and their destination, young children are happiest with what they already know. So the favorite stuffed giraffe that takes up a third of the suitcase is brought along, as is an entire library of & quot; Dr Seuss and Eric Carle& quot; books and, not to mention, the space- consuming nappies, wet wipes and milk bottles needed for the really young ones.

When you' re done packing for your offspring, you might have space for your own things. It' s OK, you didn' t really need shoes. The younger the child, the harder it is to get over jet lag Very young children cannot force themselves to go to bed or wake up just because local time says it' s the right time to do so. Kids will sleep when they' re tired and be up when they' re not.

So your young child may be raring to go at 3 a. m. , just when your dose of melatonin has kicked in, and of course promptly fall fast asleep when you arrive at Disneyland. Babies who haven' t yet regulated their sleep pattern fall outside this, so in this respect traveling with infants is easier than traveling with young children, although you may be curious as to what wonders of Tokyo/ San Francisco/ Paris/ the Maldives can be appreciated by a little one whose world has barely extended beyond his mother' s breast.

Travel to a destination that serves French fries Do not attempt to travel to a place where there isn' t kid- friendly food. This seemingly small detail is essential for a successful holiday with young children.

French fries, nuggets, pizza and the like will save your holiday. If you' re the type of traveler for whom the most worthy destinations are places where there isn' t a basket of fries to be found, then you have some compromising to do. While sampling local cheese, wild curries and exotic meats may be exciting for you, all a young child wants is some fried, fast food or at the very least, a bowl of mac and cheese. You can' t have too much in- flight entertainment for young children If you wonder why parents of young kids travel with five pieces of luggage, it' s because three of those five bulging bags are filled with toys, books, games and gadgets lest junior gets bored for more than a second and all hell breaks loose.

The extra bags are filled with several changes of clothes ( for when junior throws up all over himself) , a mountain of wet wipes ( to clean junior and everything within a five- meter radius) , children' s drugs ( we' re not using them to get the kids to fall asleep, promise) and a bottle of whiskey for mum and dad hastily bought at duty free. Strollers are as much a bane as a boon Being able to strap a child into a stroller and load it with stuff that would otherwise be on your back is huge relief for an exhausted parent. It is not humanly possible for one adult to push a luggage trolley laden with four suitcases ( remember the stuffed giraffe) and a stroller at the same time ( yes it' s OK to balance your child on top of the suitcases) .

While airline staff swear on their life your stroller would be waiting for you when you got off the plane, it is often found at the baggage carousel, a good 15- minute walk away. Your exotic destination is likely to be non- stroller friendly so your buggy sits folded up in your hotel room for most of the trip. This means you end up only going as far as your young child can walk ( to the nearest restaurant that serves French fries and back) ; or as far as you can carry them in your strap- on carrier ( yes the Wat- of- 500- steep- steps is too much) ; or you spend most of your holiday by the hotel' s baby pool. Despite all of the above, traveling with young children is great fun and terrific bonding time for busy parents; but it is hard work. So make it easier by choosing travel options that the more intrepid of us would recoil at ( that' s right, no backpacking around India) , but the young one would love ( Club Med, theme parks, all- in- one resorts win) .

Either take them globetrotting now - - or just wait till they' re a little older. & # 169; 2011 Cable News Network

CHICAGO, Illinois ( CNN) - - President- elect Barack Obama, citing the need for tighter oversight of the nation' s financial markets, on Thursday named veteran regulator Mary Schapiro as his choice to head the Securities and Exchange Commission. And Obama has selected California Rep. Hilda Solis to serve as secretary of labor, a Washington- based labor official for a major union told CNN. Solis is currently serving her fourth term in the House, representing a district that includes part of East Los Angeles.

She serves on the Energy and Commerce, Natural Resources, and Energy Independence and Global Warming committees.

Obama, speaking at a news conference, also announced the nomination of Gary Gensler to serve on the U. Commodity Futures Trading Commission and Dan Tarullo to fill one of the vacancies on the Federal Reserve Board. & quot; Financial regulatory reform will be one of the top legislative priorities of my administration, & quot; Obama said. & quot; And if the financial crisis has taught us anything, it' s that this failure of oversight and accountability doesn' t just harm the individuals involved, it has the potential to devastate our entire economy. That' s a failure we cannot afford. & quot; Schapiro, who will be the first woman to chair the SEC if confirmed by the Senate, is currently chief executive of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, the largest non- government regulator for securities firms that do business with the U. S. public. She would replace Christopher Cox as chair of the SEC, the nation' s main watchdog over publicly traded companies.

Schapiro is a former SEC commissioner who briefly served as the agency' s acting chair in 1993.

She also was chair of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in 1994, during the Clinton administration. Obama' s announcement comes amid criticism of the current SEC chairman for the agency' s apparent failure to act on information that could have prevented one of the largest investment fraud cases in Wall Street history. Cox said Wednesday that & quot; credible information& quot; had been brought to the SEC' s attention over a period of nearly 10 years about the activities of Bernard Madoff, who has been charged by federal prosecutors with leading a $ 50 billion Ponzi scheme. No formal investigation was done.

Obama pointed to the Madoff scandal in saying tighter regulation is needed. & quot; Charities that invested in Madoff could end up losing savings on which millions depend - - a massive fraud that was made possible in part because the regulators who were assigned to oversee Wall Street dropped the ball, & quot; the president- elect said. Earlier this year, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson put forward a plan that would have combined the nation' s various financial regulatory offices, including the SEC. However, it remains to be seen if such steps will be implemented in the next administration. Gensler served in the Treasury Department under President Clinton from 1997 to 2001.

Tarullo, one of Obama' s top economic policy advisers, is a professor at Georgetown Law School. & quot; These individuals will help put in place new, common- sense rules of the road that will protect investors, consumers, and our entire economy from fraud and manipulation by an irresponsible few, & quot; Obama said. & quot; These rules will reward the industriousness and entrepreneurial spirit that' s always been the engine of our prosperity, and crack down on the culture of greed and scheming that has led us to this day of reckoning. . . . Instead of appointing people with disdain for regulation, I will ensure that our regulatory agencies are led by individuals who are ready and willing to enforce the law. & quot; A senior Democratic official said Obama will announce Illinois Republican Rep.

Ray La. Hood on Friday as his choice for transportation secretary. Two sources told CNN earlier that La.

Hood would be Obama' s nominee for the transportation post. Fellow Illinois Republican Rep. Tim Johnson welcomed the selection of La. Hood, whom he calls one of his closest friends in Congress. & quot; I think Ray has the ability to work both sides of the aisle well, & quot; Johnson said. & quot; He' s an extraordinarily talented legislator and ( is) from Illinois so, from a provincial standpoint, this would meet our needs well. & quot; A Democratic House colleague from Illinois, Rep.

Jan Schakowsky, also praised La. Hood' s selection. & quot; He' s a bipartisan guy, & quot; she told CNN. & quot; He' s well- liked and respected. & quot; On Wednesday, Obama tapped former Iowa Gov.

Tom Vilsack as the next agriculture secretary and Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar as the next interior secretary.

Vilsack was a high- profile supporter of Sen. Hillary Clinton during the presidential primaries after he briefly sought the Democratic presidential nomination. Salazar, Colorado' s former state attorney general, is a member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, and has developed a reputation as a strong advocate of reducing the country' s dependence on foreign oil. Also on Wednesday, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino announced that Obama will meet for a second time with President Bush.

The meeting also will include the three living former presidents. Bush will host a lunch with Obama and former Presidents Jimmy Carter, George H. Bush and Bill Clinton on January 7, Perino said. CNN' s John King, Ed Henry, Brianna Keilar, Deirdre Walsh and Jessica Yellin contributed to this report. All About

( OPRAH. COM) - - Manhattan' s wealthier citizens had decamped for their summer homes, leaving the rest of us with room to breathe and stroll and enjoy summer in the greatest city in the world. Some friends and I, Italian pastries in hand, parked ourselves on the steps of a brownstone where we observed the passing parade. A perfect New York evening until, coming through the East Village gloaming, he arrived; cunningly small, his coat an unusual, glossy dark gray, almost hematite in color. He playfully sniffed at us, treating us as no more sentient than the stoop upon which we were sitting.

It was finally his probing at the wax- papered sfogliatelle in our hands that prompted a response from his owner. & quot; Milo! & quot; she said, her voice swoopy with mock scolding. & quot; You know you can' t eat sugar. & quot; Milo' s infraction, it seems, was strictly personal, dietary, and adorable. There was no & quot; please excuse my dog for nuzzling your food with his nose, a wet appendage that was only moments ago exploring God knows what on the sidewalk and more than likely the backside of some other dog not long before that. & quot; The thought probably never even crossed her mind.

Indeed, Milo was allowed to continue to tarry, tangled among our ankles ( and dessert) as unhurried as a Butoh dancer.

It was only when my friend Rory pointed out - - with a friendly chuckle, it should be noted - - that Milo & quot; might have found the only four New Yorkers who don' t love dogs, & quot; that his owner pulled her beloved terrier away in protective haste while casting a look in Rory' s direction that one might best reserve for the inappropriate slattern who shows up at the Vatican in a tube top with a pentagram Sharpie' d on her stomach.

Lest you think I' m one of those injustice- collecting urban paranoids with a tinfoil hat and a plastic bag containing a brisket and a manifesto in tiny handwriting, a New York crazy who has a problem with everybody and everything, I should mention that I grew up with - - and adored - - a dog of my very own. Oprah. com: 5 ways a pet can improve your life A lemon beagle named Hecuba.

As channeled by my father - - who kept up a running monologue of her voice throughout my childhood - - she was less stalwart Queen of Troy than lovable Lucy Ricardo: unfailingly devoted, endearingly clueless ( surely every family trip taken without her was nothing more than forgetfulness on our part) , and charmingly flatulent.

Her death was wrenching, and even now, more than three decades since her passing, when I see a beagle, I melt. I absolutely know and appreciate what it is to love a dog. But I also understand that when I say that Hecuba was the best, the sweetest dog who ever lived, it would never occur to me to expect someone else to feel that way about her.

Oprah. com: Is your dog making you sick? Why, then, am I continuously asked to be an ardent suitor in others' love affairs with their ?

And why does my resistance to do so put me on a continuum of sociopathy somewhere between Bernie Madoff and Hannibal Lecter? It' s the false moral component behind blind animal love that so frosts me. The faulty logic that believes that the capacity to adore a nonhuman creature is somehow a purer form of love. Just try pointing out that a relationship with a creature that cannot challenge you, that does not make you slog daily through the necessary compromise, debate, and occasional pitched battle, might be something less than deep and nuanced, and see where it gets you. By the same token, displays of evident affection on their parts and extraordinary tales of the conscience and loyalty of Balto, for example, or the miraculous intelligence of Alex the African gray notwithstanding, most nonhuman animals don' t really feel the same way about us.

Oprah. com: 5 cat myths- - busted! If they did, you' d overhear a lot more & quot; I' m really pissed off at what you said before about me getting fat and how Alice Munro writes the same book over and over.

So no, I don' t want to get the ball& quot; in the nation' s dog runs. I had occasion a few years back to appear on a late- night talk show with a chimpanzee ( long story, never mind) .

As he held my hand in his own warm, hairy dry palm, I really was overwhelmed with a rush of lovelike symptoms.

The chimp seemed unbearably sweet, and wearing a pair of diapers to prevent any on- set accidents only made him more so. Still, I demurred when the trainer asked me if I wanted to step up our level of physical contact and actually dandle him in my arms. It' s not that I wasn' t tempted. I was immediately taken in by those empathetic brown eyes surrounded by benevolent wrinkles. What I was feeling was the same complex firing of neurons and synapses that ascribe human emotion to the furry, the liquid eyed, the infantile.

Disney and his team of animators figured this out long ago ( I still can' t watch the scene where Dumbo visits his incarcerated mother) . But I could not rid myself of the fear ( completely well- founded, as it turns out, given the recent stories of chimps in the news) that he might at that moment revert - - as is his right as an animal - - to his dominance- seeking nature and decide to tear my face from my skull.

My desire to cradle this clingy, warm- thoraxed being in my arms was triggered because he so reminded me of a toddler.

Get it? A human child. The kind of creature who might grow up to become an oncologist, a public school teacher, or yes, even a Grand Theft Auto- - playing, Mom' s- basement- dwelling disappointment. Not far from my apartment, within a stretch of no more than 500 feet, there are two doggie gyms where Gotham' s canines who aren' t getting enough exercise running through the city' s parks, or are neglecting their all- important doggie glutes and abs, can go for a workout.

What can I say? This appalls me. But do I wish these Gilded Age inanities ill?

Quite the contrary. I hope they stay open and prosper, but only to the extent that they provide jobs for folks who need them. It' s not a contradiction. It' s not even a paradox.

I have no problem with animals, I just like people more.

christian Could my new 'freckle' be another basal cell carcinoma? -

Basal cell carcinoma of the skin is one of the most common cancers in the U. We often talk about lung cancer as the most common non- skin cancer in the U. S. , because basal cell of the skin and squamous cell carcinoma of the skin are the most common cancers in the U. Basal and squamous cell cancer are not nearly as deadly as lung cancer, because treatment can be highly effective when the cancer is detected early.

I encourage you to talk with your doctor about your concerns and stick with some type of surveillance and treatment. These cancers often present as discoloration and scaling and can cause ulceration or sores. They can get very large and unsightly. They can also metastasize or spread to internal organs and cause organ dysfunction leading to death. Like the other skin cancer, melanoma, these diseases are very much related to sun exposure and sunburn.

Fair- skinned people and people who have freckles and/ or red hair are especially at risk. Someone with basal cell is also at increased risk for squamous cell or melanoma. In someone who has significant risk factors, I suggest a good relationship with a dermatologist or a family practice or internal medicine specialist who is comfortable with taking care of these skin diseases. Removal of suspicious lesions as your dermatologist is doing is clearly the thing to do and it does help decrease risk of systemic spread of the disease.

Many people have small lesions burned or cut off several times a year. It is an inconvenience but it truly can be beneficial. Clearly the best approach is to avoid sun exposure and especially sunburn.

A sun block or clothing should always be used to keep sun off the skin.

Attention should be paid to the scalp; a hat with a wide brim should be used to protect the scalp and face.

LONDON, England ( CNN) - - Worldwide tributes for U. Senator Edward Kennedy, who has died after a long battle with brain cancer, poured in Wednesday, led by politicians hailing his role in securing a lasting peace in Northern Ireland. Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, whose administration presided over the 1998 Good Friday Agreement which led to an end to decades of sectarian violence in the province and established a united ruling Assembly, praised Kennedy' s commitment to the process. & quot; I saw his focus and determination first hand in Northern Ireland where his passionate commitment was matched with a practical understanding of what needed to be done to bring about peace and to sustain it, & quot; Blair said. Kennedy, of Irish Catholic ancestry, was initially an outspoken opponent of British military deployment to the province during the violence of the 1970s and 80s in which more than 3, 600 people were killed, but later moderated his views to support negotiations that brought all sides to the table.

The senator is credited with getting an American visa for Gerry Adams - - leader of the pro- Irish nationalism Sinn Fein party accused of links to Irish Republican Army militants - - allowing him to attend a pivotal U. S. conference on Northern Ireland' s future. Kennedy was awarded an honorary knighthood in March 2009, for his contribution to Northern Irish peace, which included a landmark speech in the province in 1998 urging mainly pro- British Protestants and mainly pro- Irish Catholics to work together. Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen described & quot; a great friend of Ireland. & quot; & quot; He has used his considerable influence in the world' s most powerful parliament for the betterment of this island, & quot; he said. & quot; In good days and bad, Ted Kennedy worked valiantly for the cause of peace on this island. He played a particularly important role in the formative days of the Northern Ireland peace process in the early to mid- 1990s. & quot; i.

Report. com: Irish President Mary Mc.

Aleese added: & quot; He will be remembered here in Ireland as a hugely important friend to this country during the very difficult times. & quot; His death will be greeted with a great sense of sadness here because of his long- standing affection for this country, not just with the peace process, but on many other issues, including emigration, & quot; Mc.

Aleese said. & quot; His outstanding and remarkable personal contribution was made, despite the sacrifice and sorrow that was part of the overall contribution of the entire Kennedy family. & quot; Sinn Fein president Adams greeted Kennedy' s death with great sadness, according to the UK Press Asscociation. & quot; He has served the American people with courage and commitment for nearly 50 years. His service to Ireland through his role in the peace process was exceptional and contributed significantly to its progress. & quot; Irish former policitician John Hume, a co- recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in ending Northern Irish violence, described Kennedy as a close personal friend who took the Northern Ireland issue onto the world state. & quot; Ted Kennedy was at the forefront of persuading the British government to talk to the Irish government, & quot; he told CNN. Shaun Woodward, the British government' s Northern Ireland minister, said he was & quot; deeply saddened& quot; to hear of Kennedy' s death. & quot; Ted Kennedy was a true and constant friend of the peace process in whose huge influence in engaging the United States in that process cannot be over estimated, & quot; he said. & quot; In every sense he was an immense figure whose part in transforming Northern Ireland will be a lasting memorial. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown paid tribute to Kennedy' s achievements on the wider world stage, describing him as the & quot; senator of senators. & quot; & quot; He led the world in championing children' s education and health care, and believed that every single child should have the chance to realize their potential to the full, & quot; Brown said. & quot; Even facing illness and death he never stopped fighting for the causes which were his life' s work. I am proud to have counted him as a friend and proud that the United Kingdom recognized his service earlier this year with the award of an honorary knighthood. & quot; In Israel, Foreign Minister Avigdor Leiberman hailed Kennedy as a & quot; great friend of Israel and the Jewish people a defender of human rights and member of a family that through the years at the Senate was always at the side of Israel, in bad times and good and contributed to the deep and special relationship between Israel and the United States. & quot; German Chancellor Angela Merkel described Kennedy as a & quot; towering figure in U.

S. politics. & quot; & quot; His battle for justice and equality was defined by persistence and resoluteness. In Senator Kennedy both Germany and Europe have lost a great and dear friend, & quot; she said. Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd described Kennedy as a & quot; great American, a great Democrat and also a great friend of Australia. & quot; & quot; He has made an extraordinary contribution to American politics, an extraordinary contribution to America' s role in the world, & quot; Rudd said in a statement, according to Agence France- Presse.
